Topic: Be such a friend 1
Text: Luke 5: 17-19 (GNT)
17. One day when Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of the Law were sitting there who had come from every town in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was present for Jesus to heal the sick.
18. Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a bed, and they tried to carry him into the house and put him in front of Jesus.
19 Because of the crowd, however, they could find no way to take him in. So they carried him up on the roof, made an opening in the tiles, and let him down on his bed into the middle of the group in front of Jesus.
Message
There are a lot of lessons to learn from the story of an invalid who was healed by Jesus in our anchor text.
One of such lessons is the role this man’s friends played in him seeing Jesus. We actually don’t know how far his house is to where Jesus was but the bible recorded that this men carried him to the venue. On getting to the venue, the crowd alone was enough to discourage them but they refused to be deterred from their cause. As a friend, how far can you go for your friend. These men had to break the roof just because they want healing so badly for their friend. The reality is more effort is needed for some people to see Jesus. Not only are they invalid, but the crowd will stand in their way of receiving their miracle. They need a friend who won’t count the cost, who won’t mind going the extra mile for them to see Jesus. This is really love in action.
Furthermore, it was recorded that when Jesus saw their faith (vs19) These man backed their faith up with actions. Be such a friend who not only pray for his friend’s salvation but also go the extra mile. God bless you.
Action point: Remember, much effort is required for some of your friends to see Jesus
Prayer: Lord, help me to be a friend who will help others to see Jesus
