GRACE CENTRE DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Date: 30th July, 2021
Topic: Result Of Pride
Text: 2 Samuel 24:2
”So the king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him……count the people that I may know the number of the people.”

MESSAGE
What is wrong with taking a census? A census is used to know the number of people in a nation, and the case of Israel was not different.
Unlike before, the land was at peace and there was no need to conscript people into the army. It was pride and ambition that made David ordered the census. He wanted to glory in the size of his nation and army, its power and defenses. By doing this, he put his faith in the size of his army rather than in God’s ability to protect them regardless of their number. We sin in a similar way, when we place our security in money, possessions or people.

Many of us like to make list, but we need to be careful what we number. If we take a census of our abilities and strengths or list what we have accomplished, we can become self-centered and our pride will keep us from depending on the Lord. If we take inventory of our problems, we may become depressed. The best thing is to count our blessings and see what God has done. God performs countless miracles and we will never get to the end of that list.

Action Point: Let your mind be focused in the right direction.

Prayer Point: Thank you Lord for all you have done for me. I appreciate you from the depth of my heart. Thank you in Jesus name.
