Text: 1 COR 13:1-13
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Love means a deep or abiding liking for something; an enthusiasm for something or affectionate, benevolent concern or care for other people and for their well being. Love goes more than mere talk of telling someone ‘I LOVE YOU’; it must be shown in deed/behaviour to that person. If you clam you love your neighbor, friends or anyone around you then you will not tend to do things that will hurt them.
We should not only show love to friends alone, we must also love our enemy no matter the things they have done to us; Remember we were once a sinner that God redeemed through his love by dying for our sins. Thus, learn to love and not hate, don’t boast and don’t be easily angered, for love is not all about this; love is kind, patience, it trusts, it gives hope.
As children who has been redeemed by God’s love reciprocate that love to those around you, it does not matter how gifted you are spiritually or how fervent you are with God, without love all these are termed as nothing. The greatest gift you can ever give to a person is to love wholeheartedly. God has shown us this love by sending his only begotten son to die for our sins.
The commandment God gave us is 1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, you can’t claim to love God and not follow his will or not being obedient to his laws, love doesn’t disobey, love is always obedient. 2. Love your neighbor as yourself, if you love your neighbor as yourself you will not do anything that will hurt them. 1John 4:7-8. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. According to this text, God is love, if you love NOT that means you have not know God.
Action Point: Love now!
PRAYER POINT: God put in me the gift of Love, to love you Lord and all those around me.
