TOPIC: The extra kind of virgin

TEXT: Matthew 25:2–3

2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

MESSAGE

There are a lot of lessons to be learnt from the parable of the ten virgins. Jesus described five of them as being wise because they had the initiative to take an extra oil. Nobody expected the bridegroom to come late, but they choose to take precautions of what if?.

A lot of believers are living today just as the foolish virgins, they think they only need their oil, i.e, their faith while waiting for the bridegroom, no extra oil, just a day to day lifestyle. When emergencies come, they go begging or borrowing. The story of the son of prophet who after his death left his wife in debts (2 Kings 4:1) is a good illustration of how although some people fear God, they don’t take initiatives. No wonder, Apostle James said faith without work is dead.

You need to have an extra oil. Physically, don’t live a careless lifestyle and for the Spirit-life do you have a bank of wealth that you can withdraw from in case of an emergency? May the Lord help you to take wise initiatives.
