  Topic: Receiving Favor through Humility
  Text: Proverbs 3:34
  "Surely He scorns the scornful, but gives grace to the humble."

THE MESSAGE
Many attempts have been made to define grace. In a general term, grace is often defined as unmerited favor. Genesis 6:8 says "but Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord." Since grace is unmerited favor, then, we should say that Noah found unmerited favor in the eyes of the Lord. To receive grace is to receive favor.
When Paul said "I am what I am by the grace of God." He simply meant that "he was what he became by the favor of God. Having grace is a proof that you have favor.
There is a grace that salvation brings to us. Ephesians 2:8 says "For by grace you have been saved through faith..." There is a grace you receive through your faith in Jesus Christ and that grace is for your salvation. When you confessed Jesus, you received that grace, but beyond that, there is a grace that comes through humility. This is not the grace for salvation but grace for exaltation. When God wants to lift a man up, He will give more grace to that man. You accessed grace for salvation through faith but you will access grace for exaltation through humility.
When you humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, you will be lift you up in due time (1 Peter 5:6). How God lifts the humble is that He gives more grace to them.
There is a grace that makes you to be exalted with Christ in the heavenly places, and there is a grace that will make you to be exalted among men on earth.
Our theme text says "God gives more grace to the humble." In other words, God gives more favor to the humble. The key to increase in favor is humility. You cannot have more favor with God and men when you are not humble. Arrogance and pride make people lose their favor but humility makes people receive more favor.

The real proof that you are humble in the sight of God is that you are humble before men. If you cannot humble yourself before the men you see, how can you humble yourself before the God you didn't see?

Humility is a state of heart. When you think you are better or important than others, you are not humble. Humility will tell you to respect and honor all men. If you cannot honor all men then you are not humble.

I want you to know that you need to receive more favor from God and men. And humility is the key that will make such possible. Make up your mind today to be more humble.

Action Point: Pride loses favor, humility receives more favor.
