TOPIC: SUBMIT AND RESIST
TEXT: Jam 4: 6-8
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Message
One of the principles of warfare is identification of the enemy. The Bible reveals to us that the devil is our arch enemy and we are to resist him steadfastly in faith. In the verse above, we are enjoined to first submit and then resist. Many people skip over the first step of submission and try resisting the devil, only to discover it does not work. Defeat is inevitable if you act independently of God. It is the humble, not arrogant and self- confident, that will overcome the enemy. You can only resist the devil when you submit to God. To ‘’resist’’ means to ‘’stand firm against and oppose the enemy at every point’’. The Bible does not teach us to go looking for demons but to resist them when they approach us.
ACTION POINT: Defeat results when you fail to submit yourself to God.
PRAYER POINT: Lord Jesus I submit myself to your will today, Devil I resist you over my life in Jesus name
