TOPIC: BE YOUR BROTHER’S KEEPER
TEXT: ROM.14:10–15; 1COR. 10:23–24
10:You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.
11: It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’”
12: So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.
13: Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
14: I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.
15:If your brother or sister is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy someone for whom Christ died.
MESSAGE
Being your brother’s keeper, entails showing concern about their state of affairs especially spiritual affairs.
While we are free to conduct ourselves in whatever way we are convinced, we must be sensitive to those who have different conviction. If our actions will make another brother to go astray from the defined way of the lord, we should restrain ourselves. Our primary goal should be to bring glory to God and not to draw attention to ourselves. Our secondary goal should be how we can help build up weak Christians and to as well edify other believers.
The call of denying ourselves the right to do certain things is not sinful. Christ did not live to please Himself, but to bring glory to God and to pay for redemption. He has set an example for us to follow.
Focus on things that will edify your Christian brother rather of pleasing yourself, for we must love the lord our God first and love our neighbor just as we love our selfs.
PRAYER POINT: I will not be a stumbling block to another believer in Jesus name. Amen
